Last night Aurora Watch said we were experiencing the strongest geomagnetic storm of this solar cycle. Unfortunately I had had a couple of glasses of wine so heading to the hills was out of the question. Fortunately Teesdale is not too bad for light pollution and a quick look outside around 10.30pm confirmed a slight green haze on the horizon. Over the next hour or so the display came and went, but eventually it intensified just before midnight into a series of green and red bands coupled with light flashes and rays streaking across the sky.
