Good luck with your explorations in this area.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07061493122424534813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739575111461729992.post-22938003199598976542013-06-18T13:00:10.117-07:002013-06-18T13:00:10.117-07:00Many years ago I used to know several sites like t...Many years ago I used to know several sites like this in the Peak District. You summed up the mixed emotions they provoke perfectly. I don't know any of the crash sites you listed here. Clearly an excuse for further exploration!Markhttp://www.beatingthebounds.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739575111461729992.post-73677854066902136812013-06-13T15:04:37.882-07:002013-06-13T15:04:37.882-07:00Hi Alen. I have seen the Wellington Bomber crash site on Dufton Fell and believe it or not very little remains, mainly just aluminium metal fragments. I think in a lot of cases the RAF chopped them up, or burnt them on the spot. A lot of stuff was also dumped either in the various tarns nearby or buried. Some has even been removed for museums, or private collections.

If you are heading up there sometime I can PM you the general grid ref if you wish. I did not make it public, as I understand some people go to these sites, don't treat them with respect and remove components.

As for unguarded remarks, I never seem to learn - good job my wife and friends have a good sense of humour.
Cheers, David
Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07061493122424534813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739575111461729992.post-67172108824088589592013-06-13T06:14:15.038-07:002013-06-13T06:14:15.038-07:00That was a fascinating read, David. I've been along that ridge between High Cup Nick and Cross Fell at least once, and bits of it twice, and never seen a hint of any of them.
Wellington and Halifaxes were big planes. I'll have to keep my eyes open in future.
Watch those unguarded remarks. They'll get yuo into trouble.
Cheers, AlenBecause They're Therehttp://becausetheyrethere.comnoreply@blogger.com
