For years there had been debate about who was responsible but a dig on a Roman site in 2004/5 found rabbit bones and it is generally accepted that the Romans introduced them.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1487787/Romans-introduced-the-rabbit.html

Cheers, David
Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07061493122424534813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739575111461729992.post-40557376308404049102013-04-01T14:35:47.382-07:002013-04-01T14:35:47.382-07:00Just when you there was nothing simpler than a phe...Just when you there was nothing simpler than a pheasant, someone makes it all complicated. I had no idea there were so many variants. However, to my credit I did know they had been introduced by either the Romans of the Normans. Weren't rabbits introduced in a similar way, or have I just imagined that?
Cheers, AlenBecause They're Therehttp://becausetheyrethere.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739575111461729992.post-4993050652945433812013-03-26T03:03:55.507-07:002013-03-26T03:03:55.507-07:00A Cormorant on the road! I bet they don't move very fast with legs set back like theirs though.

The pheasant was introduced from Asia in general, although which specific countries I don't know as there are lots of subspecies and hybrids which have also been introduced.
Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07061493122424534813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739575111461729992.post-10556949837365699692013-03-25T15:57:54.360-07:002013-03-25T15:57:54.360-07:00I had exactly that driving experience this morning...I had exactly that driving experience this morning. And then, late this evening with, of all things, a cormorant in the road.
Loads of pheasants bred for shooting in this area, so we're over run with them. We regularly have them in the garden. Where were they introduced from, i.e. where were they native?Markhttp://www.beatingthebounds.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
